Description:

The International Falls Hike starts in Canada and then crosses over to the US. Although you don’t cross US Customs, we suggest you bring your passport as a cautionary measure.

  • The hike begins with a steep decent into a valley and creek crossing. There are ropes available for support should you need them that will help guide you to the bottom.

  • Once you reach the creek crossing be sure to roll up your pants and pack away any loose belongings. To stay dry bring a small towel to wipe your feet, an extra pair of socks and a second pair of pants.

  • The trail is easy to follow and varies from sturdy rocks to packed soil. Once you reach the higher plain, the trail disappears, and you are left with choosing your route for the remainder of the hike.

  • There are views of several waterfalls on the way up along with a beautiful view of the Chilkoot Trail and Bernard Lake once you reach the highest peak

There is a variety of terrain throughout the hike from rocks to mud and even to snow. Make sure you bring appropriate footwear so you can complete the hike comfortable and dry.

Season:

  • You can hike this trail from May to September, depending on the season

  • Winter: there is a snowshoe and Nordic ski tour, also suitable for cross country skiing depending on the snow. The area is heavily used by snowmobiles, so there may often be a hard-packed trail.

  • Our photos below are captured in July

  • The initial creek crossing in the summer months can at times become flooded so it is suggested to bring a small towel, extra socks and pants that can roll up to your thighs.

Trailhead & Parking

The Trailhead—once parking at the pullout you can find the start of the hike off to the left.

Parking:

12 km after Canadian Customs turn right off the road into a pullout. The pull-out has a lake below and a waterfall on the otherside. This is the same parking lot as the Feather Peak hike. There is also an avalanche information sign in the parking lot.

Trailhead:

Follow a rough trail located to the left of the pullout. It is extremely steep so take extra caution. There are ropes available to make the descent easier. After reaching the bottom of the 40 m descent, there will be a wide creek to cross in order to truly start the hike. Depending on the time of year the water has the potential to be high so wear appropriate gear that is able to get wet or easily moveable. Once on the other side, a trail is apparent that will lead up to the right side of the first waterfall. Continue on to 4 other waterfalls and some spectacular views!

The last waterfall — once you reach the first peak you have the option to turn back or continue on to the neighboring peak. Either way, we recommend taking a moment to relax and enjoying your surroundings before your descent.
